Maison Toro — Field Brief
I've put together this list to help you search for archive bags that fit the Retro Structure brief: doctor bags, bowling bags, Boston bags, frame bags and ladylike top handles. Fifteen houses below, plus broad searches, searches in French, Italian and Spanish, and some deliberately unglamorous ones, because that's usually where the good stuff is hiding, badly described.
The bag should hold its own shape. If it only looks structured because the seller stuffed it with paper for the photo, it doesn't count. Five shape families qualify:
1990s–2000s Prada is a priority. The bowling bag has been reissued several times (2000 original, 2012, Resort 2020, 2025 suede), so check which generation a listing actually is.
Priority search area, particularly satchels. The Arcadie, Beau and Wander are current-season bags, so leave them out; we want archive.
Especially interested in the Frida Giannini years (roughly 2006–2014), including the Indy era, and in pre-Tom Ford bamboo bags.
Search both "Ferragamo" and "Salvatore Ferragamo." Ferragamo made a lot of rigid ladylike bags that resellers rarely bother to research.
Priority wildcard. The D-Bag has real archive history and is still under-researched on resale.
Older structured Bottega only. The Veneta hobo and other soft intrecciato bags belong in Big + Soft.
Search both "Dior" and "Christian Dior." We're after the lesser-known Dior, so the Lady Dior is a comparison point rather than a target.
Please search both spellings. Pre-Philo Céline (1970s–2000s) is where the ladylike top handles are.
The Bolide is the one to look at: a zip-top dome shape from the 1920s.
The Amazona (1975) is a textbook Boston-style archive bag. Check size: the larger versions are heavy.
Epi leather holds its shape far better than monogram canvas. A slumped Speedy doesn't qualify.
Plentiful on UK resale.
The Paddington's padlock makes it heavy. Weigh it in the practicality check.
Vinted and eBay pull in listings from France, Italy and Spain, and those sellers describe bags in their own words. Pair each of these with a brand name.
